What are the packaging limits for small lithium batteries or batteries transported by land or ship?

The battery must be placed inside the inner package to prevent damage, short circuit and movement in the outer package. Battery terminals are of special importance. They should not touch other batteries/or any other conductive content packaging.

The battery must be placed in a hard outer package. If the shipper chooses to use a soft outer package, such as a soft cushion envelope with a hard package inside, the outer package must be marked as “outer package”.

The battery must be placed in a hard outer package (unless included in the equipment), and the inner package must be designed to prevent short circuit (non-conductive material) and battery damage. The equipment must have positive means to prevent accidental activation during transport. Packages must not exceed 66 pounds.
