What are the main components of the fire alarm system?

8 main components of the alarm system

Fire alarm control panel:

it is the “brain” of the system, also known as input, and receives messages from the startup equipment.

Detonating device:

the same as the alarm panel after starting the device to start the alarm, which can be addressable/non addressable. Some starters are generally not addressable but are connected to addressable modules. The switches can have specific addresses and can communicate with addressable systems.

Pull station:

a manually operated device that gives an alarm signal when someone pulls its handle.

Smoke detector:

a device that gives an alarm signal when sensing smoke.

Pipe detector:

smoke detector installed in air conditioning and heating pipes.

Heat detector:

fire detection equipment equipped with sensors that react to heat.

Beam detector:

it will project a beam of light in the area it protects. If smoke passes through the beam path, the detector will respond.

Aspiration type or air sampling smoke detector:

pipe is used to convey air or smoke to a central detector equipped with a sensor that can detect small changes in the chemical composition of the air.

Other components

Water flow switch:

The paddle located in the pipe filled with water will react when water flows.

Anti tamper switch:

a kind of monitoring device that will operate if someone moves its valve from its normal position.

Notification equipment:

send visual or auditory notifications to remind the residents of the building to evacuate.

Audible equipment:

Audible equipment includes alarm, bell and horn.

Strobe light:

send notification by flashing light.

Strobe lights/horns:

send notifications by flashing and sounding alarms

Dialer or communicator:

The fire alarm system has an internal or external dialer for contacting the monitoring center or alarm receiving station.

NAC power:

Today’s systems require many notification devices, which require additional power, called notification power or NAC power.
