Overcharge may cause the battery to overheat, expand, leak, or even fire or explosion, so the overcharge protection mechanism and design safety of the battery can be verified through the overcharge test.
Overcharge Test
Overcharge testing is essential for the safety of batteries under extreme charging conditions. An effective overcharge protection circuit can prevent thermal runaway when the battery is charged and avoid battery failure due to overcharge. Through this test, you can verify that the overcharge protection design inside the battery can effectively work to ensure that the battery does not cause hazards such as fire or explosion in the case of electrical failure.
Test procedure
Charge to overcharge voltage
Charge the battery to a value beyond its rated voltage (usually 1.5 times or more of the rated voltage of the battery) and continue charging.
Monitor the battery status
During the charging process, monitor the voltage, temperature, and appearance changes (such as expansion, leakage, and smoke) of the battery, and record the data.
Continuous testing
The charge is usually continued for a period of time until the battery has an abnormal reaction or the test time reaches a set value (for example, 1 hour or more).
After completion of the test
Check the appearance and function of the battery, including whether there is expansion, leakage, fire and other problems.
