How much power does the fire alarm system need?

NFPA 72 conformance states that power supplies must be installed in accordance with the applicable NFPA 70 requirements.

NFPA 72 requires two independent and reliable fire alarm system power supplies: the main power supply and the auxiliary power supply.

The main power supply needs to be powered by a special branch circuit, which is powered by an electric power company or an engine. The branch circuit is driven by trained personnel on duty all the time. The generator driven by the engine or an equivalent facility for cogeneration with the electrical equipment installed in an approved manner as the main power supply.

The auxiliary power supply of the fire alarm system must have sufficient capacity to operate the system under normal conditions for at least 24 hours, and be able to supply power to all notification devices for evacuation purposes for at least 5 minutes. 1.1 to 10.6.7.2.2.
