Hot Box Test

The purpose of the hot box test is to evaluate the safety and performance of the battery at high temperatures. High temperatures can lead to thermal runaway, expansion, leakage, and even fire or explosion. Through the hot box test, you can verify that the design of the battery can remain stable at extreme temperatures, ensuring that the battery will not be dangerous in high temperature environments.

Hot box testing is a very important part of battery safety testing, especially for high-power applications such as electric vehicles and battery energy storage systems, where batteries need to remain stable at high temperatures. Once the battery occurs thermal runaway, it will not only affect the performance, but also may lead to fire or explosion. Therefore, the hot box test can effectively verify the performance of the battery under high temperature conditions, ensuring that it can cope with extreme temperatures in practical applications without safety incidents.

Test procedure

Place the battery in the hot box

Place the battery in the hot box, and the temperature of the hot box will gradually increase to the set high temperature range. The common temperature range is usually 50°C to 85°C, or even higher, depending on the battery type and industry standards.

Heating procesS

Test the performance of the battery under continuous heating by gradually heating it. Monitor changes in battery temperature, appearance, and pressure during the heating process.

Continuous testing

Held at a set high temperature for a certain period of time, usually from a few hours to a few days. Monitor the battery for abnormal phenomena such as expansion, leakage, overheating, smoke, and fire.

Post-test inspection

After the test, check the appearance, function and internal structure of the battery to analyze if there is any damage, leakage or other safety issues.
