The electrolyte and diaphragm together ensure the normal operation and safety of the lithium battery. The electrolyte provides a transmission channel for the lithium ions, while the diaphragm ensures that the positive and negative electrodes do not short-circuit. The choice of electrolyte affects the conductivity and stability of the battery, and the choice of diaphragm determines the safety of the battery under high temperature and overcharge. Therefore, the performance and quality of the two are crucial to the overall performance of lithium batteries.

Preparation of electrolyte

Electrolyte is the conductive medium of lithium battery, mainly composed of lithium salt and solvent, responsible for the conduction of lithium ions in the charge and discharge process. Lithium salts (such as LiPF6) are dissolved in organic solvents (such as carbonates) to ensure high conductivity and chemical stability of the battery. The formula of the electrolyte directly affects the performance of the battery, including conductivity, safety, low temperature performance and service life.
The composition and concentration of the electrolyte have a decisive impact on the conductivity, stability and safety of the battery, and reasonable formulation is the key to the performance of the lithium battery.

Preparation of diaphragm

The diaphragm is an isolating barrier between the positive and negative electrodes, preventing short circuits and allowing lithium ions to pass freely. Commonly used diaphragm materials are polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), whose porosity and thickness directly affect the safety and cycle life of the battery. The thermal stability and mechanical strength of the diaphragm are critical, especially at high temperatures or under overcharge.
The diaphragm ensures the safe operation of the battery, and its material selection and performance design directly affect the stability, cycle life and high temperature safety of the battery.
