Battery pack connection and safety system

The connection system of the battery pack is responsible for the electrical connection of multiple battery cells and modules to provide the required voltage and capacity, while the safety system is to ensure the safety of the battery pack in the process of charging and discharging, to prevent overcharge, overdischarge, overcurrent, overheating, short circuit and other safety hazards. Through the real-time monitoring and control of the battery management system (BMS), the battery pack can maintain stable operation in different working environments to ensure safety and efficiency.

The link system of the battery pack is mainly responsible for connecting multiple single batteries to form a complete battery pack, and ensuring the electrical connectivity, stability and efficiency of the battery pack when working. The safety system of the battery pack is the key part to ensure that the battery pack will not overheat, overcharge, overdischarge, short circuit, thermal runaway and other safety problems in the process of charging and discharging. With the progress of battery technology, more and more attention has been paid to the safety design of battery packs, especially in high-power applications such as electric vehicles and energy storage systems.

The difference from a single battery

Complexity and connection mode

Single battery: The link system is simple and mainly involves the connection of the positive and negative electrodes of the battery.
Battery pack: The link system is more complex and consists of multiple battery cells or modules connected in series or parallel to ensure the desired voltage and capacity output and achieve balanced management between batteries.

Protection function and monitoring

Single battery: The protection function is simple, mainly focusing on the basic safety measures such as overcharge, overdischarge, and overtemperature.
Battery pack: A more complex protection system is required, which not only protects each individual battery, but also monitors the overall voltage, current, and temperature of the battery pack to avoid systematic failure caused by battery imbalance.

Thermal management and heat dissipation

Single cell: Thermal management is simple, usually through a heat sink or thermally conductive material.
Battery pack: Due to the cooperative work of multiple battery cells, the battery pack requires a more complex thermal management system, which may include air-cooled, liquid-cooled or phase-change materials, etc., to ensure the temperature balance of the battery pack.

Monitoring and Communication

Single battery: usually only basic temperature and voltage monitoring and simple communication interface are required.
Battery pack: It needs two-way real-time communication with external devices through advanced communication systems (such as CAN bus) to monitor the status of the entire battery pack and coordinate the work of the battery unit to ensure the stability of the system.
