About the color filter in the display

Main component

The color filter in the display is a key technology, which plays an important role in the image presentation. The main function of the color filter is to decompose the original single backlight into red, green and blue primary colors by selectively filtering certain wavelengths of light. The combination and adjustment of these colors ultimately constitute the color image on the display screen.

Color filters usually work in conjunction with liquid crystal layers or self-luminous pixels (such as OLeds). In a liquid crystal display (LCD), the white light emitted by the backlight passes through the liquid crystal layer first. The rotation of the liquid crystal determines the amount of light passing through, and then the light is broken down into three primary colors by a filter color. Each pixel contains three sub-pixels (red, green, and blue), and by adjusting their brightness ratio, the screen can present a colorful picture.

Current color filter technology is constantly evolving. For example, quantum dot color filters can improve color gamut and brightness performance, and tiny quantum dots provide purer primary colors of red, green, and blue by exciting specific wavelengths of light. In addition, OLED technology does not rely on backlight, its color filter design is more simplified, but still requires fine color control to achieve a more realistic picture effect.

Although the color filter is not visible, it profoundly affects the display quality of the screen. From color reproduction of images to energy consumption performance, it provides an important support for the development of the display industry.
