Overdischarge Test

The overdischarge test is designed to assess the safety and performance of the battery in the event of excessive discharge (i.e. the battery voltage drops too low). Overdischarge may cause battery damage, reduced capacity, and even cause safety problems such as thermal runaway, leakage, or fire. Therefore, overdischarge testing can help ensure that the battery will remain safe under extreme discharge conditions and will not cause serious failure.

Overdischarge Test

Overdischarge testing is essential to ensure the safety of batteries under extreme discharge conditions. Excessive discharge may trigger a chemical reaction inside the battery, resulting in reduced battery performance or dangerous conditions. Through the overdischarge test, you can verify whether the battery has an effective overdischarge protection mechanism to prevent the battery from irreversible damage or fire and other safety hazards due to too low voltage.

Test procedure

Discharge to low voltage

Discharge the battery to a standard range below its rated operating voltage (for example, lithium batteries are usually designed for a minimum operating voltage of 3.0V, and an overdischarge test may discharge the battery to 2.5V or lower).

Monitor battery status

During the discharge process, real-time monitoring of battery voltage, temperature changes and appearance changes (such as expansion, leakage, etc.).

Continuous discharge

Continuous discharge to the set low voltage point, record the battery reaction. The test time is generally determined by the discharge characteristics of the battery and the predetermined discharge voltage.

Check after the test: After the discharge

Check whether the battery has any abnormalities, such as expansion, leakage, and high temperature, and analyze its safety performance.
