How BMS works
BMS includes control IC, MOS switch, Fuse, NTC thermistor, TVS transient voltage suppressor, capacitor and memory, etc. Its specific form is shown in the figure:
BMS can be divided into three protection circuits, designed to ensure the safety and stability of the battery pack under different operating conditions.
It mainly monitors the basic parameters of the battery, such as voltage, temperature and current. In the figure above, the control IC protects the circuit by controlling the MOS switch to turn the circuit on and off. When the measured parameters exceed the set safety range, the primary protection circuit will immediately sound an alarm or take measures. This protection is usually carried out at the level of each individual battery, ensuring that each battery can operate within a safe range.
When the primary protection fails to respond in time or when multiple batteries are abnormal, the secondary protection circuit intervenes. FUSE provides secondary protection based on the primary protection. It may prevent a more serious condition by disconnecting the battery or load. This protection mechanism is often used to prevent fault propagation over a large area.
This is the final protective layer, which is used to intervene when secondary protection does not work. TH is temperature detection, and the inside is a 10K NTC; NTC mainly realizes temperature detection; TVS is mainly used to suppress surges. Measures at this level often include cutting off the power to the entire battery system to ensure the safety of equipment and people.
