Watchdog Timer for DC charging pile microcontrollers: Guardian of system stability

In the microcontroller of DC charging pile, Watchdog Timer (WDT) is a special hardware timer, its core task is to monitor the operating status of the microcontroller, in order to prevent the system from stagnating due to program loops, anomalies or other reasons.

Main component

Concept:

The watchdog timer is designed as a countdown or timing monitor that automatically counts the microcontroller during operation. If the "feed the dog" (that is, reset the counter) action is not received within the preset time, the watchdog timer will assume that the system has failed, and trigger a reset signal to reset the microcontroller, thereby avoiding a system crash or unresponsive state.

Function:

1. Prevent dead loops: The main role of the watchdog timer is to prevent the microcontroller program from running or falling into a dead loop to ensure the stable operation of the charging pile.

2. System monitoring: It monitors the periodic pulse generated under the normal working conditions of the microcontroller, detects the failure state of the circuit or microcontroller, and can immediately switch to the backup/redundant system in case of failure.

3. Fault recovery: When a fault occurs, the watchdog timer can trigger the system reset, so that the system can run again, thus playing the role of monitoring and recovery.

Working Principle:

1. Initialization: When the system starts, the watchdog timer is initialized and the initial value of the counter is set.

2. Timing: The watchdog timer starts to time, usually counting down, and triggers a reset when it reaches 0.

3. Reset: Under normal operation, the microcontroller will periodically reset the watchdog timer so that its counter is reset to the initial value. If reset is not done before overflow, the watchdog timer will trigger a reset or interrupt signal.

4. Overflow behavior: The overflow behavior of the watchdog timer can be configured to generate a reset signal or an interrupt signal. In a typical application, it is configured to produce a reset signal, and we should re-write the value before the counter is reduced to 0 to "feed the dog" and prevent the reset from occurring.

Sum up

Through this working principle, the watchdog timer of the DC charging pile microcontroller becomes the guardian of the stable operation of the system, which not only improves the reliability of the system, but also provides an effective mechanism for early detection and recovery of faults.

DC CHARGING PIlE SERIES

DC charging pile is an efficient charging facility for electric vehicles, which uses direct current (DC) to directly charge the vehicle battery, significantly reducing the charging time. Compared with traditional AC charging piles, DC charging piles are able to provide higher power output and can usually charge an EV to 80% of its capacity in 30 minutes, providing users with a convenient charging experience.
